ARTS OF WAR – PROCESS PORTFOLIO
Project Description
Art in the time of war. This phrase expresses the struggles artists face to articulate warring crises through art and the tensions that come with creating purgative works of delight through different modes of expression even when the world seems to always be at its wit’s end. This exhibition intends to puzzle out the contentious war‑art dilemma by
foregrounding the fact that war is everywhere every time. War is both the physical violent
altercations that continue to tear down lives and livelihoods as well as the mental battles
we need to endure before we finally bring ourselves to a place of self‑acceptance.
War is many things just as art is, hence, art in any of its manifestations is mostly a reiterative expression of war. In short, war is an art and art is about wars. The diverse works displayed in the exhibition have been submitted by students and community members within and around the University of Alabama, all of whom have pushed the limits of their mediatic boundaries in order to express the search for peace in their hearts amidst the raging war in their minds, the war with their bodies and its disabilities, the war on our climate, or the destructive war among states and ethno‑racial nations.
